Neolithic Revolution

The Neolithic Revolution was the 1st Agricultural Revolution. It was the transition of human beings from being hunters and gatherers to being farmers. There were many causes for this grand revolution. For example, an increase in population caused the ancient people to stop hunting and gathering and start farming because their old ways of gathering food ways not sufficient enough. They needed a lot more food to feed their whole community. Hunting and gathering was also not reliable. They needed a steady food supply which thus caused them to grow wheat and barley. In addition, people tended to over-hunt and over-gather which then led to very barren land. This land was useless, and there was no food for the civilization. People also started to establish religions and the religions used agriculture in their native customs. Another major cause was the Oasis Theory. This theory states that people began to form civilizations because they lived in extremely hot and dry climates. They wanted a cooler place to inhabit and thus causing them to settle in oasises. Therefore, if this revolution did not occur, we would not be where we are today!

Civilizations

In order for ancient civilizations to thrive they must meet certain conditions. For example, they must have been by a river valley because the water from the rivers would germinate the crops as well as create silt which is fertile soil. Furthermore, they must also have a large food supply. Without a large food supply, there wouldn't be enough food for everyone. Hence, you would need to the rivers in order to grow enough food for the entire civilization. Specialized workers are also important in a civilization. Specialized workers are artisans, builders, etc. One of the earliest civilizations was Mesopotamia. Mesopotamia was located in northeast Africa and southwest Asia which today, would be known as southern Iraq. Mesopotamia which literally means "The land between two rivers" was located between the Tigris and Euphrates River.
