Good job guys! The cookie dough at the beginning of your presentation was an interesting connection to your topic of genesis, being the beginning of a cookie. There are so many beginnings and firsts in history, and you guys did a nice job of covering a lot of them. Some of the art and cultural movements that stood out in my head were the Harlem Renaissance and the Renaissance of 15th and 16th century Europe. Of course, the connection to the book of Genesis from the Old Testament was on target, but what really interested me was your interview with Rabbi White and the priest from St. Aidan’s Church. I always wondered how priests could possibly deny the theory of evolution when presented with so much evidence in support of it. I realized that it’s not a matter of denying modern science, but rather reconciling new discoveries and theories with the traditional doctrines of Christianity, Judaism, or any religion for that matter. Both the rabbi and the priest held the similar belief that evolution does not conflict with the traditional Christian doctrine of creationism as long as we acknowledge that there had to be some moving force behind “The Big Bang”, some energy or power that put it all in motion. Many would consider this initial force to be God’s doing. The book Angels and Demons by Dan Brown includes a scientist and devout Catholic named Leonardo Vetra who recreates the Big Bang and holds the similar belief that the initial spark of energy behind it was God. He is murdered for this discovery by people who think that a God as a burst of energy cannot be as inspiring as the God depicted in the Bible, who often takes on a relatable human form. Your experimental also recognized that an end is a new beginning and a new beginning can also mean an end. With so many new beginnings and ends, you essentially have change. All three of your personals had to do with such change: Victoria showed how her art changed and evolved over time, Lia discussed a change in career interests, and Emma talked about how her life would change when her sister left for college. Your experimental made me wonder if there actually are any real beginnings or ends, or if the universe is simply in a constant and indefinite state of change. Speculation on the end of all things sort of overlaps with the Immortality experimental, so it was interesting to see both Genesis and Immortality and how they connected and differed. To summarize, your experimental was both interesting and ran smoothly with slide and topic transitions. Nice job!

Hey guys, great job on your presentation. First off, I'd like to say that choosing the topic of Genesis in the first place was very brave. Out of all the experimentals, I think that Genesis was probably the theme that would prove to be the most difficult to create a multi-media presentation on. The idea of cookie dough being the beginning of the cookie was very original and I thought that it was very clever. The amount of history and art that you were able to connect to was very impressive. Everything on your science page is a perfect connection to the idea of Genesis, in my opinion. The creation of the universe from the Big Bang, the evolution of man from the beginning, and the succession of ecological factors all came off to me as great ideas, and your presentation on them was very well-said. If I were to give a suggestion to the way you presented your experimental, I think that there might have been a little bit too much reading from paper. I personally think that looking at the crowd and expressing your own authentic ideas gets the audience more involved and interested rather than reading pre-written notes. Besides that, I think that the execution of your research within the powerpoint was great. Your personals were all very interesting, and overall I think that your experimental clearly exhibited much time and effort from each individual in the group. Great job guys.

Hey girls! Terrific job. Your experimental was really great and i applaud you for picking such a difficult topic. When I heard about your topic I wondered, how in the world are they going to spend 42 minutes talking about genesis. But you guys truely proved me wrong by even going over the bell. This showed how much effort and research you guys had put into this project. You jam packed your presentation with a lot of information. I loved the cookie dough in the beginning and the cookies at the end. It was very, as Nathan said, original and clever. One thing that I had learned from your project is that the ending of one process is only the beginning of another. This positive information makes me less "morbid" about life. Such as the last day of my teen tour when everyone was saying there goodbyes. This end of our trip was the beginning of a whole new kind of friendship. A friendship where we look forward to those mothly visits, chat online, update eachother on our lives, and especially cherish and remember all the memories we had made to gether. All of your movie connections made sense and the videos were enjoyable. One factor that made you presentation easy to follow and interesting was the flow of your topics. Each topic had somewhat a connection to the next and they all tied to gether in the end. Overall, nice work and I enjoyed your presentation.

Great presentation! At first I did not understand why you would choose this topic. I didn't realize there was so much art and history that you could connect to 'genesis'. You guys did a LOT of research, and it showed. Each of your personals were very thoughtful and unique. Lia, I thought of myself during your personal because I also am entering this new world of photography. And in the future, I hope that I can display my photography in chronological order and see an improvement. This was a presentation that I could somewhat relate to, so it made it even more interesting.
(Oh, and the cookie dough/cookies was not only clever, but delicious!!)

Hi Victoria, Lia, and Emma,
Your initial struggle to find a topic that would embrace the many and diverse ideas the three of you had early on lead eventually to such an original and challenging theme. As you defined it, genesis served as an umbrella topic for a wide range of beginnings or starting points in a rich array of fields. Closely allied to “change,” your topic also allowed you to use this project to probe your own emerging passions.
Audience members encountered an immediately vivid illustration of your concept as they approached their seats: cookie dough, which had not yet become the cookie it might have been had the tempted guest not eaten it! Then your presentation opened with a dance sequence, something few other groups included. The interviews with Rabbi White and Father Kevin that followed next were interesting and important; it was excellent that you presented representatives from two different faiths. How surprising to hear such similar views, ultimately; evolution is denied by neither but rather, each religious leader explained how the scientific facts are compatible with their religious tenets.
Turning next to ancient medical practice, you told us about civilization's first doctors and first dentists, explaining where modern practices were “born.” This was interesting, and in fact, I’ll be sure to check this out on your website. It seemed you may have had more information than you were able to share here. The historical perspective continued as you spoke of various eras to show the eventual birth of our nation, as America was established by pioneers. Later in the presentation, you mentioned the Harlem Renaissance, The Industrial Revoltuion, and the Renaissance. Some of this material could have been more vibrantly illustrated, I thought, since much of it was presented from your notes and not as enlivened by video clips and artwork as other sections were.
The interview with Mr. Spector about his architecture was an original way of looking at your topic. How he started his firm and established his reputation made for an intriguing interview. Along these lines, I was reminded of some of the you- tube videos we had earlier viewed on the10P website; a couple were of architects who discussed their design methods, like Buckminster Fuller, for instance. Do you remember? These would have tied in, perhaps.
The literature you selected connected well; Gilgamesh, Secret Life of Bees, the Bible (of course) and The Odyssey, and Huck Finn. On these last two, you offered particularly relevant commentary. Film clips from P.S. I Love You, The Color Purple, The Blind Side, and Pretty Woman all seemed on point; the clip of Julia Roberts was just perfect! The clips were a bit too long and would have been better if you edited them to highlight just the scenes that made your point, yet particularly in the long nature film, the Louis Armstrong “What a Wonderful World” served as a terrific soundtrack. Other songs, such as Black Eyed Peas “I Gotta A Feeling" and Creed’s “With Arms Wide Open,” added relevant lyrics at just the right moments.
Similarly, you included well-chosen art at different points throughout your presentation, often illuminating different perspectives on your topic. While you seemed to have a terrific and diverse collection of works, it did go by very quickly and without much of a chance for the audience to catch whose works they were or how they actually connected to the idea of genesis. More explanation of each work would have enhanced this section quite a bit.
One obvious aspect of your experimental was the great deal of research you did. You had gathered so much material in a variety of areas. Also, each of you spoke in clear and engaging voices. At times, you relied on your script, and this took you away from direct audience interaction. The contrast was most obvious when each of you delivered your personal connections. That’s when you spoke most vibrantly. Emma, your “new beginning” looms ahead; when Sarah heads to college, you and Laura will be two thirds of a trio that’s always been. That will be new, different, and difficult to get used to, I imagine. What will the Emma/Laura duo be like? How will your new Sarah/Emma relationship be—now reliant on texting and Skyping? Like all change, this phase brings with it the chance for enrichment as well as loss. Knowing you and Sarah, I’m betting on gains outweighing the losses.
Victoria, I loved your personal! To be invited into an artist’s retrospective—curated by the artist herself—is about as personal as it gets. Victoria, I loved your personal! To be invited into an artist’s retrospective—curated by the artist herself—is about as personal as it gets. Your candid assessment of your work and the way you spoke of your own evolution as an artist revealed self-reflection that has lead to sophisticated self-awareness. This, of course, informs your work. It is special and important, also, that you have in mind those who first inspired and supported you in your passions. Your grandparents and uncles played significant roles in your life and in the development of yourself as an artist. They are part of your legacy. (see Remy, Lauren, Jen) I hope you hold on to your dreams always.
Ah, Lia. I’ve watched your evolution over the past two years from fashionista to photographer (and coincidentally, from shy sideliner to articulate participant). Your personal connection illustrated well how genesis and change become so entwined that the two themes form a near continuum. (which makes me think of polarity—see David & Landon; as in, are death and life actually two separate events or merely two poles of a continuous cycle?) You explained how your passion for fashion design has given way to a newfound fascination with photography. The photo-montage of your recent work certainly convinces me that you’re onto a real talent. Whether THIS talent is necessarily at odds with your former love of design seems arguable. In any event, your embrace of new beginnings is commendable and truly exciting!
Concluding your experimental with a retrospective glance at your classmates' (humble) beginnings at Northside was a fun blast from the past! Everyone left with smiles on their faces. Thank you, girls, for a very enjoyable and informative presentation.

Sorry, i messed up the post before.
I had a lot of fun with your experimental! The idea of using the cookies as a way to start off the presentation was really witty and creative.
I really liked how you guys used so much history in your presentation, and you guys didn't just look at Genesis as the initial beginning, but how there are many types of "Genesis" throughout history. For example, being able to tie in the Renaissance movements into your presentation was really nice, for it was like a "rebirth" instead of an initial growth. Not only that, you guys used a ton of movies and clips and literature, and the amount of media added to each slide and aspect made the presentation much more interesting because we didn't just listen to facts, we were able to see how the information you researched could've been portrayed, like in "The Secret Life of Bees". By talking about how it was the start of a new life, yo guys were able to tie in much of your other research and sources in really interesting ways, and that really caught my attention.
Your powerpoint presentation was also very creative. You guys were somehow able to use all of these custom animations and designs and shapes i had never even thought of or knew. This added a really pretty visual, but it wasn't too over the top that it distracted from the main purpose, so that was really nice!
I really enjoyed each of your personals as well. Each one showed a very unique way of genesis. Lia's change in passion, Victoria's passion for art, and Emma looking to th efuture, i think these were all very touching personals. Seeing the montage of art and family pictures was very cute, and the photos that Lia took were really amazing as well (I liked the one where lindsey had the camera with the picture of the eye up to her face).
You guys had a realyl cool experimental, it was really fun to watch!

hey guys. Great job on your experimental. From the moment i walked in i was glad i was there. I sat down and got a cup of cookie dough. Great idea! That's a good way to symbolize the beginning. Then you guys went into genesis in religion. The interviews with both the priest and the rabbi were interesting. I found my self not only understanding more about genesis, but realizing that these two religions are actually pretty similar. The movie clips were great. The secret life of bees was a perfect movie to include. I enjoyed all of your experimentals. Emma on beginnings without Sarah, Victoria on art, and Lia on photography were all great connections to the idea of genesis. Great job guys!

Hey guys, amazing experimental! When i first walked in i was extremely impressed with your unique decorations. The facebook pages along with the banner were very well put together and created an awesome atmosphere. Another great way you started your presentation was by giving out cookie dough at the beginning followed by cookies at the end (which were delicious!). Something i found very unique about your experimental topic genesis is that everything has a beginning, so it was possible for you to relate it to many different disciplines, which you certainly did. The way you looked at many different religious views and edited the clips with a rabbi and a priest was a nice way of comparing the two religions' beliefs. A great aspect of your experimental is that you guys were able to include history that was very interesting and relevant, such as the Harlem Renaissance and information from ancient civilizations. This was especially entertaining because you looked at topics that we haven't necessarily covered a lot of in school. Another highlight of your presentation were your thoughtful movie selections. The most memorable for me being the Blind Side, not only because i think that it is an excellent movie, but also because it was a perfect example of a person starting over and creating a new beginning in their life. Each one of your personals were also very interesting and did a great job of showing how each of you evolved over time. Emma, the slideshow of you and your sisters was adorable, and it was interesting to hear how next year with Sara going off to college will be a new beginning because i know this past year with my sister away it definitley felt that way. Victoria, seeing your art evolve was very fun and it was your significant improvements and progress over the years was very obvious. Lia, it was very interesting to here how your passion switched from fashion over to photography. Concluding your experimental with a photo montage was very cute (thanks for using all of those fabulous pictures of me from elementary school) and definitley brought back memories with each of you from Northside. Overall you guys had an amazing powerpoint and an extremely enjoyable presentation. Great job and congrats!

All I can say is wow. You guys did a wonderful job! As others have mentioned, you guys seemed to have chose a rather difficult topic to work with, and I was very impressed with what you did with it. You defined genesis as an origin or a beginning, but you went on to say that sometimes, an end is a beginning, or a beginning may be an end. This implied a continuous cycle of change, as BJ mentioned, which was a very interesting concept. Also, your decorations were beautifully done. I liked the huge Genesis banner in the back, as well as the electric candles and the way you posted your survey results looking like Facebook profiles. I also agree with the others when I say that the idea of using cookie dough to signify the beginning of a truly amazing snack was brilliant. What added more to this was the fact that you gave us the finished product, cookies, after your experimental ended.
Onto your actual presentation, I found your research into the opposing views of Science and Religion very intriguing. You had a great interview with Rabbi White and Father Kevin, and it was interesting that these two individuals, from two different religions, had pretty similar views on this topic. I found it inspiring that they embraced reconciling the beliefs of Judaism and Christianity with the findings of science. This attitude clearly contrasts with the attitude of the Catholic Church during the Scientific Revolution, persecuting scientists for their discoveries, deeming them heretical to the Church. Both these attitudes, also reminded me of Angels & Demons, which BJ mentioned earlier.
I was also fascinated by the amount of well-researched history you included. It was a clever way to tie in various fields by explaining their origins. I found it interesting how your topic was almost the opposite of Legacy, where you deal with the things that precede an event or the beginning of an event, whereas the legacy of an event is what implications it had for the future. Ancient medicine, as well as the Renaissance, the Industrial Revolution, and the Harlem Renaissance were great beginnings to hear about.
One major "plus" about your experimental was your heavy usage of media. You constantly kept us entertained with connections to movies and songs. I particularly enjoyed the clip of The Blind Side, a movie I haven't seen yet, but, because of your experimental, am now inspired to see. It's sad that some people don't have the same resources we do; sometimes, all they need is a second beginning, one with more resources, to achieve their potential and shine, as seen in this clip. Also, your use of pictures, shapes and designs created a variety of very aesthetically appealing slides which easily caught our attention.
Your personals were indeed very personal. Emma, the classic story of a sibling leaving for college is always emotional, but it seems that you and Sarah share a very special bond, one that perhaps rarely sees the stereotypical rivalry and fighting associated with sisterhood, which makes it even more painful to stay apart. I hope for this new beginning to be a good one, and that perhaps your time apart will only make you closer when she returns. Lia, your gradual change in interest from fashion to photography was very captivating and interesting to hear about. I'm glad that you have found this new beginning, and hope that you've found that one thing that'll always make you happy. Maybe this is a beginning without an end? Victoria, your commentary on how your art has changed over the years was very personal. It's nice to hear that you have an undying interest, sparked and still lit from a young age.
I left the presentation, munching on a delicious cookie while thinking about what a great job you three did. Thank you for a wonderful time!

Great job guys! Especially, as many others stated for doing your project on a topic as tricky as genesis. Your project was the one I had looked forward to seeing the most and you guys did not disappoint at all! The reason I looked forward to seeing your presentation so much was because I really never knew what Genesis was. Any time I would hear the word genesis, I would usually only associate it with Adam and Eve. But you guys showed everyone just how many things Genesis could also be related to.
The most important thing you guys did was display what the word Genesis meant, which as you guys stated is a, "new beginning." The first thing I really liked about the presentation was that you guys interviewed both a rabbi and a priest about their opinions on the topic of genesis. This was very good because the audience got to listen to two different opinions and based on that they could draw more accurate conclusions about genesis. My favorite connection was probably the one you guys made with the Renaissance. That was a perfect connection to genesis as it is said that during this time period, society took a complete turn in the way it was run. People were now living for today rather than living for tomorrow. They were building their own reputations rather than focusing on other peoples'. Another connection I enjoyed was the one on the movie, The Blindside. I have never seen the movie, but I have heard much about it. The story of Michael Oher is a prime example of a new beginning. He was given a whole new life once he was presented with the opportunity to play football. It is just a great story and I am glad you guys included it. I really enjoyed all three of your personals. Emma, I liked yours the most as it is something I can easily relate to. This year was the first year my sister went to college and it was definitely a different experience. Of course, she is home now, but it was very much a strange and new lifestyle I lived while not having her around for eight months. Lia, I liked your personal as it very much a new experience when you change a career path. Especially when going from one in the field of fashion and design to one in the field of photography. Two very different careers to say the least. Victoria, your personal was fabulous. It was very easy to tell you guys put a lot of hard work and effort into this project. From start to finish you guys showed confidence in every piece of information you shared. Congratulations on having such a great presentation!

When I walked into the room, I immediately saw the cookies and not the cookie dough and didn't understand the idea and had a cookie and then it took me until I sat down and saw the cookie dough that made me realize what it was for. That was a great idea for the beginning and end. I wasn't really sure what you guys were going to talk about for Genesis and I didn't really think about it in the beginning sense, but in the Biblical Sense.
The videos with the Rabbi and Priest were also very well done and they complemented each other nicely. The question that you brought up about Evolution was a good one because both religions did and do believe in Creationism. Although both religions accept Evolution now as the will of God, it must have been hard for the Church to accept it and some people still don't, it is an interesting topic for debate.
The Three movies that really caught my attention during your project were The Blind Side, Pretty Woman and The Secret Life of Bees. They all also seem like they would have been good for the Serendipity group due to the new beginning being what all of the people needed.
The Personals were all also great and fit in nicely. Victoria, I had no idea that you were such an artist. I wish that I had some sort of ability for it, but art was always something that I was terrible with. The way that your grandparents got you involved was your start and without them, you still would have been given an opportunity with art, but you may have never liked it the same way. Emma, it must be hard to know that you will soon have to say goodbye to Sarah and that you're relationship with her will change. Maybe it can make it even stronger because you both may realize how hard it is without each other. Lia, your photos in the experimental were incredible and you really are a great photographer. Going from fashion to photography, you must have a great eye for things.
The cookies at the end were delicious, and the project was great. Nice job.

To all three of you, great job on your presentation. At first glance, the only thing that came to mind, when I saw that your topic was Genesis, was the first chapter of the Bible. I thought to myself how could an presentation could be done on something like that? But then, as you began your presentation, I remembered that the actual meaning of Genesis was beginnings or origins. This was introduced wonderfully, especially to the audience, by the cookie dough we received at the beginning. I came in a little late, so I do not know whether or not you explained the meaning of it till the end, because I know that I did not understand till the end. But when I was informed about the representation, at the time when we received the finished cookie, it fit in perfectly with your topic, and it also was very delicious and appealing to your audience! Now as for your real presentation, I especially loved it because of your interviews with the faith leaders, both a rabbi and a priest. It always interesting to hear about things from religious view, but Genesis is an actual major part of both the interviewees' religions, Judaism and Catholicism, and so matching up and comparing their thoughts and opinions was a very amazing thing. All of your movie connection were also very good, as they ranged from recent movies to old movies, and dealt with many different types of beginnings. Your personals were also very interesting, from Lia's origins and discovery in photography, to Victoria's evolution over time in her art, to Emma's new experiences without her sister around. All of them were very interesting. And also on another positive note, the decorations around the room gave me, and so I am guessing the rest of the audience, a great introduction to what we would be seeing. All around, a great presentation.

When you asked us for baby pictures, I was wondering what they would be used for. Seeing them as soon as we walked into the room as a Facebook profile was very cool. The survey that was shown along with it made me think about your topic before even entering the room since I had to talk to my parents to find out the answers. Genesis was an original topic that I never knew could be used in so many ways. It is a word that everyone knows, but only as a book in the bible. I never realized that it had another true meaning behind it. Just as many others mentioned, the idea of the cookie idea was very smart. It kept everyone’s attention throughout your presentation.

One aspect that was different in you presentation than in all of the others was the dancing. This type of art shows many different aspects at once and is very interesting to watch. Body language and music play a role in this form of expression. My favorite dance that you chose was the evolution video because it was unclear what you were seeing. This shows that evolution is a gradual process and that you can’t always tell which species will survive. This reminded me of the song “Circle of Life" that was included with this project. That song is a great interpretation of Genesis and it related to the video I just mentioned.

Another aspect that I enjoyed watching was the section on the Olympics. Since the Olympics were held a few months ago, everyone was able to relate to what you were talking about. I never knew that women weren’t allowed to be in certain events men were able to partake in. As I was looking around your website, I saw a section on American history that was quite interesting. From the Lewis and Clark Expedition to the American Revolution, these events changed history forever and created new beginnings for all people to come. I wish you could’ve spent more time on that, but of course, you can’t do everything in the short amount of time we receive. Congratulations Victoria, Emma and Lia!

Great job guys. Your presentation was in depth and didn't lack any elements. When I walked in I had no idea what genesis was. As many other people said genesis seems like a hard topic but the confidence, poise, and info that you guys presented to me made me understand what genesis is, with a confident understanding. The idea of the cookies and cookie dough really made me aware of a physical example. Your inclusion of dance was different. "The evolution video showed that evolution is a gradual process and that you can’t always tell which species will survive." Though many people have touched base on this, the Olympics was my favorite segment. I really understood this example of unity of multiple nations. Emma your personal about your realtionship with your sister was intersting and it clearly linked to your topic. Victoria your personal about your love for art was unique and i learnt a lot about you. Lia I knew you were an avid fotographer but your work amazed me. Your fusion of creativity and clear sight of thought came into perspective here. Overall great job.

Hey guys, great job on your presentation. I never realized there was so many connections that related to the topic of genesis. Your cookie dough idea was very clever, being that its the beginning to an actual cookie. Your interviews with Rabbi White and Father Kevin were very interesting to watch. I thought it was fascinating to watch two representatives of two different faiths talk about a similar view on the theory of evolution. You then continued your presentation by talking about civilization’s first doctors, dentists, etc. and explaining to us how these modern practices were born. I thought that was a very interesting section in your experimental. Additionally, you moved on to talk about the different historical eras and how these time periods eventually lead up to our nation, being that America was established by pioneers during the Western Expansion.

Your interview with Mr. Spector was very interesting to listen to as well. He really gave the audience a perfect exclamation on how his design methods are created–first starting with a blueprint, and then moving on to the actual construction of the building. Furthermore, you guys connected your topic to countless literature pieces and video clips from movies and you-tube in really interesting ways, which kept me interested and attentive to your presentation.

As for your personals, you guys did a great job connecting them to your topic. Emma, you must be happy/sad to see you older sister going to college. That will be an new experience for you and your younger sister. Though, I am sure you will stay constantly in touch with your older sister while she is in college. I hope everything works out! Victoria, your personal really connected with me. Being an artist myself, it was interesting to see another artist talk about her artwork and how its evolved into better artwork pieces over time. Maybe sometime you could give me some pointers! Lia, your new found passion for photography was very cool to learn about. After seeing your photo-montage of your recent work, I can tell you really enjoy taking pictures. Maybe you could figure out a way to incorporate fashion into your photography. Your concluding video was a perfect way to conclude your presentation. Showing pictures of our “beginnings” at Northside really made this presentation personal to all the classmates who were watching the video. All-in-all, your experimental was very informative and fun to watch. Congratulations on a job well done!

Wonderful Experimental guys!
I thought that your experimental was creative, well-researched, and intriguing. Genesis seemed liked an interesting but challenging topic. You guys certainly found great connections. I thought that your relation of Genesis to history was very clever and important. Your discussion about major periods such as The Industrial Revolution certainly provided me with a lot of information. The Industrial Revolution served as a new beginning of mass production and manufacturing and definitely had a great impact on society. You guys also went into the Big Bang Theory and evolution. You guys emphasized beginning, change, and end in the evolution. The beginning of a new species marks the end of another. The theory of evolution vs. religion is a traditional argument. You went on by interviewing Rabbi White on the meaning of Genesis in religion. In addition, your connection to the movie "The Blind Side" was terrific.

Each of your personals first reflected Genesis, or the beginning, and then showed change overtime. Victoria's art showed much change in form and detail after time while Lia's decisions about her future job changed from fashion to photography. Emma, you talked about how much your sister has impacted your life, and how much different it will be for her to leave home. You guys wrapped it up with a montage of your seeds of friendship at northside. I thought this was very creative and powerful; it reminded me of my own past and "beginnings". The cookie dough was delicious and using it was a clever way of introducing us to your presentation. Great Job! I had an amazing time!
